10 Fun Ways to Celebrate the Holidays this Weekend Near Bangor

If you are looking for family fun this weekend to celebrate the holiday season, here are some events taking place in the area.

This is a great time of year because it seems like there is always something to do. Fun events for the whole family are everywhere, as long as you know where to look for them. Of course, that’s the challenge: find them. So we wanted to help with suggestions for some activities that will take place this weekend.

Of course this is Maine and we may see some ‘weather’ this weekend so all events are subject to change.

The Great Bangor Christmas parade.

This is not the usual Festival of Lights Parade in Bangor, but it is being organized by a different group of planners, so it may look a bit different from previous years. But thanks to them, we will be able to queue on Main Street and watch the Great Bangor Christmas Parade, which will leave this Saturday at 4pm.

Pre-registration is required for this event and there is a small fee. Find more information on the event’s Facebook page.

Camping with Santa: a detour down Candy Cane Lane

This multifaceted event is hosted by our friends at Harvey RV’s at their suburban Broadway facility in Bangor. On Saturday from noon to four, the public is invited to take pictures with Santa and walk the Candy Cane Lane trail, complete with light show. There will be a food truck, a hot chocolate station, a scavenger hunt, and even a decoration station. The event is free, family-friendly, and dog-friendly.

Belfast Area High School Tree Festival

I love these events. Start by walking through a room full of beautifully decorated Christmas trees. Each tree offers a large number of prizes to the winner of random drawings. Drop your tickets into the cubes corresponding to the trees you want to win, and then keep your fingers crossed. This festival will be held at 248 Northport Avenue in Belfast and will benefit the Project 2022 Graduation of the Belfast Area High School Class. Oh, it goes from Friday to Sunday. Find more information on the event’s Facebook page.

Bangor Comic & Toy Con presents St. Nick’s Christmas Bazaar

Here’s another chance to do some Christmas shopping at St. Nick’s Christmas Bazaar. Bangor Mall will be the site, with many vendors and exciting gift ideas on Fridays and Saturdays. Bring the kids because Santa will be there too.

For the second year, the woods and gardens surrounding the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center in Ellsworth will be illuminated with holiday lights. This will be similar to a Tree Festival, except they wear stockings. Smart! The public is invited to stop by the Hudson Municipal Building, beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday morning. Enter the drawings for your choice of stockings (and their content) and you may win. Proceeds from the Stocking Festival will benefit the CHS Class’s Project 2022 Graduation.
