According to KTBS.com, the city is seeking incentives worth $ 350,000 to bring WinCo Foods to Texarkana. If the store arrives, that means nearly 100 new jobs in the area as well.

The City Council will take this proposal and vote on it at the next meeting on January 10, 2022.

The store location would be near Central Mall. Actually, it would be in the area of the old Sears store, but that would be demolished and a new stand-alone building would be built.

Lisa Thompson, a spokeswoman for the city of Texarkana, Texas, told KTBS

“The location of this grocery store is exactly why we wanted them here. Central Mall has a lot of great businesses and anything we can do to increase foot traffic is important, especially with another grocery store closing down. across the street. There’s a food desert in that area. “
