The EU has decided to celebrate European organic food with the launch of the EU Ecology Day.

EU Organic Day will be celebrated on September 23 of each year. The new initiative is designed to highlight and promote organic products grown in the EU area.

Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski said: “Today we celebrate organic production, a type of sustainable agriculture where food production is carried out in harmony with nature, biodiversity and animal welfare. September 23 is also the autumnal equinox, when the day and night are equally long, a symbol of balance between agriculture and the environment that is ideally suited to organic production.

“I am delighted that together with the European Parliament, the Council and the key players in this sector, we are able to launch this annual EU Organic Day, a great opportunity to raise awareness about organic production and promote the key role it plays in organic production. transition to sustainable food systems, ”he added on September 23.

According to the EU, organic production has several important benefits. Organic fields have around 30 percent more biodiversity, organically raised animals enjoy a higher degree of animal welfare and take fewer antibiotics, and organic farmers have higher incomes and are more resistant.
