Tubing Hill 3 Hours from El Paso

A winter in El Paso is not like the winter experienced in other parts of the US We don’t often measure El Paso’s snowfall in feet. Usually it’s more like “a blanket” or “a fuck.”

Around here the snow is like the sexy season; you never know when you can get it or how long it will last.

Consequently, those looking to participate in recreational activities in the snow have to hit the road to hit the slopes of New Mexico. But if skiing or snowboarding isn’t your thing, you and your family can still have fun in the snow.

There is a place in Ruidoso that offers an escape from snow games with tubes and zip line. It’s called Ruidoso Winter Park, and my wife and I used to take the kids there when they were kids. I can still imagine the look of alarm on their faces on their first trip down. It still makes me LOL.

Pipeline

What I love about tube hill is that you don’t have to waste any of the three hours you paid to hike uphill after sliding down. (No, I am not lazy. I am too lazy to be lazy. I am efficiently unproductive).

Just get on one of the elevators and save energy to hold onto the tube. They also have a protected area just for kids who don’t meet the height requirement for the steepest slopes.

Is there food available or can I bring my own?

Yes and yes. According to the FAQ section, they sell pizza, barbecue, drinks and sandwiches. Or “you can bring your own glasses and drinks.”

Igloo life

If you want to show your family that you are a true (snow) dancer, you can rent an “igloo” for the day. It’s not actually an igloo like the kind of ice you see in movies and cartoons; more like a soft-sided sloping tent.

According to the description on the website, it comes with unlimited snow tubes, zip line tickets, a pizza, hot chocolates, and S’mores kits. It’s expensive but you’re dancing, remember?

What days can I play in the snow?

Friday through Monday and the entire week of Spring Break in March.

How to get there

Ruidoso Winter Park is located in Alto, New Mexico, on Lower Ski Run Road.
