A crash that occurred on Saturday morning in Pownal was one of several crashes in the region that were the result of icy road conditions. This crash did not result in injuries, but it certainly could have been much worse.
According to State Police, a pick-up truck driven by a Pownal Man on Route 7 collided with a semi-tractor trailer near the intersection of Route 346. The pick-up driver apparently lost control and slid across two icy lanes of traffic before striking the side of the tractor-trailer. The Pownal Fire Department, in a post on Facebook, said that the crash happened in front of Winchester’s Store & Deli on Route 7, where crews remained on the scene for roughly seven hours. Police were warning that motorists use caution as workers are trying to clear the accident scene in the dark.

Many dangerous crashes happened in the region over the past couple of days…
The Pownal crash was one of several that occurred in the region due to the icy road conditions. You may recall the recent article about State Police on the Mass Pike being out in force on Friday morning dealing with a number of spin-outs and crashes. In fact, State Police later that evening posted on Facebook that since 5 pm (Friday) night, Troopers responded to well over 200 crashes with either injuries or property damage, including one fatality.
Another crash on Saturday morning had one fatality…
Police in Charlton reported Saturday morning that a pickup truck driver died after crashing into a parked tractor-trailer in the breakdown lane on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Charlton. 35-year-old James Lucas, OF Tyngsborough, was killed as a result of the crash.
