This Monday is National Pi Day. No…not the pie that you bake in the oven with fruits or creams. This would be the National Pi Day on March 14th that recognizes the mathematical constant π. Also known as PI, the first three and most recognized digits are 3.14. It is a mathematical constant, never-ending, the circumference to diameter ratio of a circle — you know the drill. But it is also the perfect excuse to indulge in pies of all sorts, thanks to the restaurants and bakeries who celebrate the fun holiday by offering deals, discounts and freebies. The day is celebrated by pi enthusiasts and pie lovers alike!
Now how should you celebrate National Pi Day? Click HERE for some suggestions, and you should know that in 1988, Larry Shaw organized the earliest known official or large-scale celebration of Pi Day at the San Francisco Exploratorium. The Exploratorium continues to hold Pi Day celebrations.
There are a lot of businesses that are going to offer some special deals this Monday that you might want to check out. Here are some of them that you may find in our area:
- Papa John’s: Buy one regular priced large pizza and get a second large one-topping pizza for $3.14.
- Papa Murphy’s: On March 14, use the code ‘PIDAY‘ to get 3.14% off online orders
- Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen: Cheddars’ signature menu item, their homemade chicken pot piewill be $10.29 on March 14 for dine-in or to-go orders.
It only happens once a year, so why not take advantage of this day. Maybe I can talk someone into baking a pie with the PI logo on it.
