Downtown Binghamton Shop Debuts Some Exotic and Unusual Snacks

The Lay’s spicy lobster potato chips and the white peach oolong Pepsi have just arrived at a new store on Court Street in Binghamton.

Those are only two examples of the exotic snack foods now on the shelves of Beer Bros, which opened last month.

As its name suggests, the big draw for the store at 65 Court Street is beer – and there is plenty of that in stock.

But the shop on Wednesday received its first delivery of some intriguing variations of several popular snacks familiar to American consumers.

The store owner said many of the exotic items are popular in the New York City area but they weren’t available in Broome County until now. He said he believes Binghamton University students will be pleased to see them available locally.

The assortment of snack items is being supplied by Exotic Blvd, a company based in California.

In addition to spicy lobster potato chips, other available Lay’s varieties include grilled pork, ghost pepper, capelin roe mayonnaise onigiri and something labeled “bbq prik zab zeed.” They’re produced in Thailand.

The white peach oolong Pepsi is from China, where it was introduced a few months ago.

Beer Bros is also offering some special versions of Oreos, Skittles and Sour Patch Kids.

Before you decide to taste-test any of the snacks, make sure it’s something you can afford to do. Some of the bags of potato chips you might guess would cost a few dollars are priced at $9. And that 500 milliliter bottle of Pepsi white peach oolong is $25.
