Can bitter kola cure Ebola?

Ebola is a deadly virus primarily found in West African countries. It is a virus that will first cause headaches and vomiting, but will eventually lead to internal bleeding. So far, there is no cure or vaccination that will kill the Ebola virus in a person’s body. The only thing somebody with Ebola can do is get treatment in order to reduce their painful symptoms.

The treatment for Ebola comes from the nuts of fruit trees that grow in African rain forest. These nuts are called bitter kola, or Garcinia kola. Since the outbreak of Ebola, bitter kola has been a popular food choice for many of the natives that live in West Africa. What they found was that the antimicrobial properties of the nuts will boost a person’s immune system to the point where it will prevent the Ebola virus from replicating itself and spreading throughout the body. Even though this won’t kill the virus, it will prevent it from getting worse and causing a person more pain. Therefore, African people and even tourists are anxious to eat these nuts as often as possible.

Bitter kola has been used for a long time in Africa to treat other infections, such as colds, flu, bronchitis, liver disorders and throat infections. Traditionally, the nuts are distributed by Africans who call themselves “medicine men,” even though they are not real doctors. However, real doctors in African have studied the properties of bitter kola and have determined that it stops the Ebola virus from spreading inside the body. There is hope amongst the scientific community that a cure can be made from these properties, but so far it has not been done yet.
