The New Brunswick Department of Public Health reported 55 new coronavirus cases and 93 recoveries on Tuesday, bringing the count of active cases in the province to 667.
Ten percent of those cases, 66 people, are currently hospitalized and 15 patients are in intensive care. The number of people receiving treatment for COVID-19 at the province hospital has doubled in the past two weeks. Authorities say there are two people under the age of 19 currently hospitalized with the disease.
“Outbreaks have been declared in three hospitals in the province: Moncton, Saint John and Miramichi,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell, medical director of health. “Of the number of people currently hospitalized across the province, 27 people contracted COVID-19 while in hospital for another reason.”

Officials say the rate of people hospitalized and in the ICU, as well as new cases, continues to have a big impact on people who are not vaccinated.
New Brunswick vaccination update
Public Health reports that 81.7 percent of eligible New Brunswick residents, ages 5 and older, are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Healthcare personnel, including those working in long-term care facilities, and residents of First Nations communities can book an appointment to receive a booster dose of COVID-19 mRNA if six months have passed since your second dose. They must bring their immunization record to their appointment.
Residents 65 and older and school staff can book an appointment for a booster dose if it has been six months since their second dose.
Vaccination appointments for children ages five to 11 are now available at clinics and pharmacies throughout the province.
