If you’re someone who doesn’t have time or just hates shopping, online grocery delivery is a game changer. Misfits Market is a delivery service worth trying if you are interested in buying ethical and sustainable food in particular.

Not only is it really convenient to use, but it also targets organic and non-GMO products that would have gone to waste for a variety of reasons (for example, cosmetic blemishes or inventory surplus). Everything is reasonably priced too.

Tried Misfits Market for the first time recently and loved how easy and affordable it was. Get more details on how the grocery delivery service works and what to expect next.

How to order groceries with Misfits Market

Once you sign up for an account, you will choose a day of the week that you would like your groceries shipped to you at all times. You can change this day at any time, skip the next orders, and easily pause or cancel your account.

You can only shop and choose your items during a three-day shopping period before your box ships. I recommend buying as soon as possible once the shopping window opens (you will receive an email reminder) because some items sell out quickly.

If you don’t build your box or meet the $ 30 minimum order within the three-day period, your order will automatically be skipped.

Misfit Market

Most Misfits Market products are certified organic and non-GMO, and items are clearly labeled if they are not. Grocery stock is also based on location and seasonality. I bought in the height of summer, which meant I could load my cart with cherries, tomatoes, watermelons, mangoes, and cucumbers.

In addition to fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, and protein, Misfits Market offers milk (and milk alternatives), snacks, and beverages. Like the farmers Misfits Market works with to source products, these pantry brands operate with sustainable values. In my order, for example, I added Tortilla Chips from Garden of Eatin ‘, which are made with sustainably harvested organic corn and oat milk from Minor Figures, a carbon-free brand.

Here’s a sample pricing for part of my grocery order:

Organic produce is reasonably priced and I was able to order a ton of different produce and pantry items for just under $ 50.

Unboxing and Misfits Market Review

On the scheduled day, my box arrived safely and on time. My arugula box was a bit spoiled, but everything else looked good and undamaged.

As for the packaging, there was no more than usual for a fresh grocery delivery: an insulating liner, ice packs, and cardboard dividers to protect all products and keep them cool. It’s certainly more packaging than if you were shopping in person, but at least it’s recyclable.

For actual products, some items, like plums and potatoes, were a little smaller than I was used to, but for the most part, there were no special items or surprises.

As with any online grocery delivery service, you are giving up the control of choosing exactly the zucchini or bunch of coriander you want, and you just have to rely on the service to choose fresh, ripe produce for you. In return, you save time and energy. After my experience with Misfits Market, I think the trade-off is worth it, especially since all the products tasted fresh and delicious.

Misfit Market vs. Imperfect Foods: Which One Should You Try?

Misfits Market and Imperfect Foods have similar missions of offering products and other foods that might have otherwise been wasted. Both offer fresh produce, protein, dairy, snacks, and pantry staples. Imperfect also sells some home and beauty items.

Imperfect is a bit different from Misfits in that Imperfect recommends items based on your preferences, and then you can customize your order by replacing or removing items. Additionally, Imperfect assigns you a specific delivery day based on your zip code so that delivery routes are as efficient and carbon-friendly as possible. Meanwhile, Misfits lets you choose and edit your delivery date. The Imperfect shipping fee is $ 4.99 to $ 8.99 depending on your area and delivery date, while the Misfits shipping fee is flat at $ 5.50.

Lastly, the two operate in different states. Imperfect, for example, ships in California, while Misfits is not yet available in California. Here’s the full list of Imperfect Foods delivery areas.

Overall, we recommend Misfits Market over Imperfect Foods if you like more customization in your grocery ordering and delivery experience.

The bottom line

Even as a first-time user, I was able to quickly order everything on my shopping list, from vegetables to sandwiches to a whole watermelon, thanks to the organized and easy-to-navigate site. I loved that most of the options were organic and non-GMO, but the prices weren’t outrageous. Delivery is reliable, and it’s not a headache to adjust your future deliveries or account settings for your needs.

Pros: Large variety of mostly organic and sustainably sourced grocery items, flexibility to choose or adjust delivery date, safe and reliable shipping

Cons: Some items sell out quickly, limited purchase window
