Amazon boost for organic food and drink

ORA potentially valuable new sales platform is offered to K organic companies as part of Amazon’s sustainability program.

The opportunity has arisen when the Soil Association Certification becomes part of Amazon’s Climate Pledge Friendly initiative.

The sustainability initiative, launched in October 2020, aims to make it easier for buyers looking for sustainable products to find them and know that they have been independently audited and certified. Amazon already has the widest range of organic products of any retailer in Europe.

Being part of Amazon’s initiative in Europe enables Soil Association Certification licensees to trade Climate Pledge Friendly on the online shopping site and benefit from access to millions of buyers looking for sustainable certified products. All listings will be validated and approved by Soil Association Certification.

Amazon’s organic product range now includes household names and small start-up brands, and features lines in organic food and beverages.

What is Climate Pledge Friendly?

Amazon launched the Climate Pledge Friendly as part of its goal to help customers find products that preserve the natural world. Amazon partnered with trusted third-party certification organizations to highlight products that meet sustainability standards.

The program started in the US and has now expanded to the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

Soil Association Certification Development Director Clare McDermott said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the Amazon Climate Pledge Friendly program to give our licensees access to millions of new customers looking for organic and planet-friendly products.

“Online is a key channel for organic and it has grown significantly during the pandemic with one in four organic products now being sold online in the UK, and this will continue to grow.”

“We continue to see a huge boost in the demand for organic products and the growing recognition among consumers that organic products represent the healthy choice for people, nature and the planet.”

Amazon Europe Sustainability Director Zak Watts added: “We are delighted to expand our Climate Pledge Friendly program to more than 100,000 products in Europe with new sustainability certifications such as Soil Association Certification.

“The Climate Pledge Friendly has been designed as an easy way for our customers to shop more sustainably and is an important part of our commitment to building a sustainable business for our employees, customers and communities. We are excited to be certified by the Soil Association on board and offer even more sustainable options for our customers. “
