I’m not going to lie, at this point in my life, I have to shovel very little.
Not that it was one of my goals in life, or anything like that. In our old house, the driveway wasn’t too big, and I thought I’d leveled up as an adult when we got our first snow blower. In our current home, we have a type of plow due to the size of our driveway. I never thought one type of plow was a big problem … I didn’t have to shovel until the first time.
Since I still have a snow blower, I use it for the rest of the cleaning. These days my shoveling has pretty much been reduced to clearing the steps and walkway. Not bad for an aging drummer, who has practically destroyed his spine carrying musical equipment for over 30 years.
Who are you who really think shoveling is fun?
However, I know a lot of people who, crazy as it may sound, really enjoy shoveling snow. And then there are everyone else. The rest of the world sees the snow, looks at the shovel and dies a little inside. So when I saw this simple shovel trick recently, I was skeptical, but checked it anyway. Scope now …
As the guy in the video says, there are so many different types of paddles to choose from, including tons with designs that are supposed to save your back. We’ve all tried them and, to some extent, they work. But this little piece of string pretty much takes the cake. And you can still use the same bent, rusty shovel you always used, because it’s too cheap to buy a new one.
What have you got to lose? Most likely, there is an old piece of string lying somewhere. Sure, covered in the dust and grease of your garage, but who cares? Speaking as a Mainer for Life, if it works, that’s absolutely all that matters.
