HAL’S KITCHEN: New book helps reset your belly

Article content

I had a wonderful dinner the other night delivered to my home by podcaster Marla Barr. My wife Jackie and I feasted on Seared Organic Manitoba Carrots with Ginger Orange Glaze, Baby Potatoes Shredded with Fresh Dill, and Wellington Walnuts topped with Oyster Mushroom with Mushroom Flower Sauce Tapenade. Everything was excellent! Especially the Wellington, which was very different but very good. Marla’s podcast, Your wellness trip , it is wonderful, but it will also publish an e-book called The Belly Reset Food Guide & Cookbook . She says it’s part a cookbook, part a self-care adventure, and part a journey to understand you. And she will answer some important questions like what your body craves and why and how your emotions rule your stomach. She also shares over 100 of her favorite foods for a happy belly. Can’t wait to read it! And if it’s half as good as that dinner (thanks again Marla!), It’s sure to be a bestseller. You can reserve a copy of the book now at MarlaBarr.com.

COFFEE CAN PREVENT ALZHEIMER

Coffee can do more than just cheer you up. Researchers in Australia say that people with good memories who drank more coffee had a lower risk of developing mild cognitive impairment over a 10-year period. They say this stage often precedes Alzheimer’s disease and these same study participants had a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Higher coffee intake appears to slow the build-up of a specific protein in the brain that could affect function and attention. Scientists say that drinking coffee is possibly an easy way to delay the onset of Alzheimer’s disease, but more research is needed.

SUE FOR FOOD

There have been many frivolous lawsuits related to food. There was the lawsuit against Kellogg’s alleging that there was not enough strawberry in Strawberry Pop-Tarts. There was a $ 5 million case against McDonald’s for charging the same for a quarter pound with or without cheese. And last week, a guy threatened to sue KFC because his sandwich didn’t look like the one in the menu photo. The latest target is Folgers for allegedly skimping on his coffee. A man in Cass County, Missouri, is seeking a class action lawsuit against the company for grossly misrepresenting the number of cups of coffee in each pot of grounds. He claims he only gets 36 cups and not the 60 that are promised next to a can of Folgers. Get a life partner! If you like strong coffee, do it …

CHANGES TO THE BURGER KING MENU

Burger King has announced that it is cutting back on some menu items to speed up its drive-thrus. José Cil, CEO of Restaurant Brands International, owner of Burger King, Popeyes and Tim Hortons, says they noticed that BK’s self-service lines had slowed significantly. He adds that they are working to simplify sandwich compilations and do a better job in terms of menu design to make it easier for customers to make quicker decisions.
