Country Inns Adds Seventh Site After Stonegate Lease Purchase

Stonegate has sold a new untethered lease at the Woolpack pub in Sopley, Christchurch, to Country Inns to bring its portfolio to seven locations.

The thatched-roof pub’s lease in Hampshire, which dates back to 1783 when it was converted into a log cabin that was once a wool shop, was sold through the Fleurets estate agency. Located on the banks of the Sopley Brook River (in the middle of the town of Sopley mentioned in the Book of the Last Judgment), The historic pub has the incredible atmosphere of a classic country inn.

Country Inns Marketing Director Debbie Lewis said: “We are delighted to have completed the purchase of Woolpack’s 20-year free lease from Stonegate. Our intention now is to offer fresh, locally sourced, home-cooked food whenever possible and all prepared on the premises by our exceptionally talented chefs. The new menu has been carefully crafted to offer excellent pub classics along with some very special chef options.

“We have assembled an excellent welcome team to provide excellent customer service and it will be open all day for food and beverages.

“As it is on the Grade II list, we will not make any initial changes and will only improve the pure character of the building along the way, which will increase the comfort of the place.”
