Keeping Trees in Tip-Top Health in Hamilton

The City of Hamilton, which has always celebrated its tree-lined streets and has special tree plantings every Arbor Day, will take a closer look at the city’s forest with a new federal grant.

Hamilton Parks’ new principal Amy Fox was awarded a development grant for an Urban Forestry Program. It will set aside about $ 10,000 in the next year for the examination, pruning and general maintenance of the many varieties of trees in the city.

The Hamilton City Council elected Councilman Robin Pruitt as this year’s council chair. Pruitt will be busy this year – she recently became a director of the Hamilton Downtown Association. The council also selected council members to represent the city on various organizations and committees. Kristi Bielke will be on the planning board, Jenny West is on the zoning commission and Darwin Ernst will be on the advisory council for the North Hamilton Urban Renewal District.

The council approved City Zoning Board members Karen Hughes and Vivan Yang. Yang, Sue Smith, Darwin Ernst, and Drew Blankenbaker were confirmed for 3-year terms on the Zoning Adjustment Board. And the members of the planning board, Jeff Burrows and Chip Pigman, were confirmed.

The Hamilton council meets every Tuesday evening at 7 pm Next week, January 11, it will be a Committee of the Whole meeting and the following week it will be a City Council meeting. Meetings are held upstairs in the City Hall community room in the 200 block of South 2nd Street.
