Life can be hectic at times and we all deserve a moment to control ourselves. December 18 is an excellent opportunity to do just that while learning new techniques called Buteyko Breathing to make life flow a little better. Buteyko Breathing teaches one to breathe slower, calmer, and more efficiently. Heather Berg, a yoga practitioner since 1990, will guide you through this journey at the Swinton Community Growing Project in Delray Beach (SCGP). SCGP is a permanent pop-up that grows organic food in the heart of downtown Delray and offers educational workshops and community events in its garden.
The Buteyko Breathing Method is a natural, effective, and clinically proven breath-holding program that can help manage stress and anxiety, asthma, sleep apnea, and even improve athletic performance. The science behind this technique is to slow down your breathing rate and focus on breathing only through your nose. Use a controlled pause after exhalation to train the respiratory system to take in less air and calm the breath.
The three-hour retreat guides participants on how to connect the mind and body to breathe and be aware of how breathing affects the body. Berg will also offer a session of Hatha Yoga, one of the most popular types of yoga practiced. It is usually a general term that focuses on breathing techniques combined with poses.
Classes are held outdoors with fresh air and part of the proceeds will go to SCGP to help them continue to grow organic food.
