Matteo’s Sets Opening Date for New El Paso Location

A Las Cruces-based restaurant that prides itself on serving made-from-scratch Mexican food and fresh water has expanded to El Paso foreshadowing the imminent expansion of my waistline.

Matteo’s Mexican Food has set the date for its Sun City debut, and I for one am looking forward to its opening.

From food truck to restaurant

Started by two brothers raised in Juárez and the twin sisters from Las Cruces whom they married; the restaurant actually started out as a food truck in 2018.

The homemade recipes and fresh waters quickly became a gastronomic success, and after about a year, the business became a brick-and-mortar store on University Avenue near the New Mexico State University campus.

The brothers Sergio and Hugo Ríos and the sisters Melody and Michelle, who, curiously, are identical twins, are the owners. Ok, so who is Matteo? The restaurant’s namesake is actually Melody and Hugo’s son.

When is Matteo’s open and where is it located in El Paso?

West Town Marketplace is the home of the Las Cruces movers. The restaurant and its sleek, modern decor sits between Cabela’s and the Flix Brewhouse.

BOOKING!! FEBRUARY 12! GRAND OPENING OF MATTEO EL PASO!!

They’re even more excited than I am for its arrival, as evidenced by the all-caps social media caption punctuated with multiple exclamation points.

The menu

I’ve heard great things about the family business and its food and I can’t wait to try it. The only real knock I’ve come across is the use of paper plates even when dining out, but if the food is as good as people say I can live with that.

Given his roots in New Mexico, it should come as no surprise that Hatch’s green and red enchiladas are two of his “signature dishes.”

The carne asada tacos, chicken flautas, carne asada fries, and of course, the fresh waters also get a lot of love online. A scroll through the food porn posted below should tell you why.
