Travelers on the Mass Pike this week of Dec. 6 should have extra time to reach their destination due to construction delays, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
According to MassDOT, highway crews will be working on guardrail repairs and steel repairs along Mass Pike in Lee, Otis and Becket throughout the week.
Repair work will cause multiple lanes to be closed intermittently during the day and overnight on different days. The following is a schedule for repairs and closures.
Most of the closures for guardrail repairs will take place overnight and will continue through the night, however for the City of Lee there will be daylight lane closures for steel repairs on I-90 Eastbound and Westbound at mile marker 9.4 from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm from Monday, December 6 through Friday, December 10.
As for the rest, most of the work will be done in the afternoon / evening hours:
- For the City of Otis: Lane closures for guardrail repairs on I-90 Eastbound and Westbound from mile markers 20.0 to 22.0 from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning, beginning Monday 6 December evening through Wednesday morning December 8.
- For both Lee and Becket: Lane closures for guardrail repairs on I-90 East and West from mile markers 11.0 to 16.0 from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning, beginning Wednesday December 8 at night until Friday morning on December 10.
There has been a lot of road construction and construction going on lately, so I’m sure many drivers are already familiar with the routine – plan ahead and allow extra time to get to your destination. Also, while driving through work areas, be more vigilant, slow down, be careful, and expect delays.
There will be signs and messages to guide drivers through areas where work is being done. Please note that all scheduled work is weather dependent and may change without notice.
