Online Gambling Officially Gets a Start Date in the Hudson Valley

Surprise! Online sports betting officially has a start date in the Hudson Valley.

We told you earlier this week that the New York State Gaming Commission has yet to give final approval to the sports betting law that has already been passed in New York State. There was hope that a meeting would take place in December, but that never happened.

On Tuesday, New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. told NY Sports Day that he anticipated an approval soon, but did not expect it to happen in time for the start of this weekend.

I’m hopeful that New Yorkers can finally get into mobile sports betting in mid-January.

Well, it turns out that things have changed rapidly since then. Online sports betting will officially begin this Saturday, just in time for the NFL playoffs, which begin next weekend.

The Draft Kings Director of Sports and Racing Operations is also a Hudson Valley native. The spokesperson could barely contain his excitement at Thursday’s news.

Growing up in New York and having spent the last 30 or more years in Las Vegas, I am excited that my worlds are finally ready to collide.

Fans 21 and older in New York State will be able to bet on professional sports teams online starting January 8. However, gambling on college games is still prohibited.

Until now, Hudson Valley residents were only able to place sports bets at a limited number of physical locations in the state, including the sportsbook at Resort Worlds Catskill.
