A popular food that could be in your freezer has been recalled. Authorities say the food is contaminated “which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.”

Frozen Food Development is voluntarily recalling specific lots of 12-ounce packages of Lidl brand frozen chopped spinach, the FDA warns. The recalled item was sold in stores in New York, as well as stores in eight other states.

The product is being recalled because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA.

“Although healthy people may experience only short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” the FDA states. at its withdrawal from the market.
