The list provides all the restaurants that have received and retained a Michelin star this year, and Lancashire has many on the list.
The Michelin Guide is produced by the French tire company Michelin, which has been going since 1904, and can award up to three Michelin Stars for excellence to a select few establishments.
One restaurant in Lancashire was newly awarded one Michelin Star, three were retained and one retained two Michelin Stars.
What do the Michelin Stars mean?
According to the guide, one Michelin Stars means ‘high quality cooking, worth a stop!’while being awarded two means ‘excellent cooking, worth a detour!’.
Michelin Green Stars can also be awarded for ‘gastronomy and sustainability’.

New
The Barn, Aughton
Where: Prescot Road, Aughton, L39 6RT, United Kingdom
What the Michelin Guide says: “Cooking is modern and imaginative and the appealing à la carte menu offers dishes which are British at heart, with understated elegance and well-judged combinations of delicious flavours. The set lunch menu is a steal!
“Hand-crafted cocktails are enhanced with their own fermented produce, staff are attentive and professional and, as dining spots go, on a sunny day the hedge-enclosed terrace by the lake takes some beating.”
retained
mana, manchester
Where: 42 Blossom Street, Ancoats, Manchester, M4 6BF, United Kingdom
What the Michelin Guide says: “The personality of chef-owner Simon Martin shines brightly at this stylish, modern restaurant in the lively Ancoats area of Manchester, where every one of the well-spaced tables has a view of the kitchen.
“The same fixed price, surprise multi-course menu is now served at both lunch and dinner, and the emphasis is on seafood because, as Simon puts it, “we live on an island”. While most of the produce is British, dishes incorporate influences from Simon’s travels and experiences, most notably Japanese and Nordic.”
White Swan, Fence
Where: 300 Wheatley Lane Road, Fence, BB12 9QA, United Kingdom
What the Michelin Guide says: “The sign might proclaim ‘The White Swan’ but to the locals this traditional-looking pub will always be the Mucky Duck – so-called because the coal miners used to stop here for a pint on their way home from work.
“It’s owned by Timothy Taylor’s brewery, so you’re always guaranteed a good pint – and the food is just as satisfying. Jars of maturing homemade fruit liqueurs and gins, which they use in their cocktails, sit behind the bar, and a blackboard their upcoming ‘guest chef’ evenings highlights.”
Northcote, Langho
Where: Northcote Road, Langho, BB6 8BE, United Kingdom
What the Michelin Guide says: “The restaurant’s reputation is forged on its relationship with numerous local biodynamic and organic suppliers – who have now become almost as famous as the restaurant itself – and as much produce as possible is taken from the kitchen garden.
“Head Chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen’s refined, sophisticated cooking shows real depth of flavor and a lightness of touch, along with plenty of originality – and the accompanying wine list is outstanding. You can watch the chefs close-up from the glass-walled kitchen table and they also run a cookery school on-site.”
Two Michelin Stars
retained
Moor Hall, Aughton
Where: Prescot Road, Aughton, L39 6RT, United Kingdom
What the Michelin Guide says: “Your meal commences with a tantalizing array of snacks – the last served in the kitchen where you can chat with Head Chef Mark Birchall.
“His refined, highly original dishes feature some terrific English produce, including some lesser-known herbs and plants, and his versatility results in a range of cleverly blended flavours, textures and temperatures. The wine list will have oenophiles in raptures and contemporary bedrooms complete the package.”
