the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2022 has been released on Wednesday 16 February 2022, in a digital-only format – with some brand-new Michelin Stars awarded across the land.
In previous years the publishing of the the world-famous gastronomic guide has seen some of Gloucestershire’s best restaurants awarded a fresh constellation of coveted Michelin Stars, but local foodies might be disappointed to see that in 2022, once again, little has changed for the county .
The new Michelin Guide includes 194 Michelin Stars and 122 Bib Gourmands, with the ‘2022 vintage’ described as ‘even more momentous’ with the release of one brand-new Three Star restaurant, L’Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria; five new Two Stars including two in Dublin, two in London and one in Wales; and 19 new One Stars joining the selection – with the closest new Michelin Star to Gloucestershire being Home in Cardiff.
Introduced for the first time last year, there was a fresh batch of Michelin Green Stars to celebrate sustainability unveiled in 2022 too – and while there were no new additions within the Gloucestershire borders, nearby Oak in Bath; and Wilsons in Bristol were both awarded new Green Stars.

Only one Gloucestershire restaurant has a Michelin Star in the 2022 edition of the guide – with Le Champignon Sauvage in Cheltenham maintaining its one Michelin Star.
Le Champignon Sauvage has remained one of Cheltenham and Gloucestershire’s finest restaurants since it was opened in 1987 by chef David Everitt-Matthias and his wife Helen.

Cotswolds destination Daylesford Organic has maintained it Green Michelin Star for a second year in 2022.
Daylesford chef Gavin Fuller said: ‘For 40 years we have promoted sustainable farming; growing produce and raising animals on our organic farm with the greatest consideration for the environment and animal welfare. Our mantra is to reduce, reuse, repair, recycle, rehome and rot.’
Restaurants have also been identified for their Green Initiatives and taking positive steps to work in a greener way, with a number of Gloucestershire eateries making this commendable list, these include Lumiere in Cheltenham, the Ebrington Arms near Chipping Campden, the Ox Barn at the Thyme Hotel in Southrop, The Barn at Severn & Wye in Westbury-on-Severn, The Wild Rabbit in Kingham and Wilder in Nailsworth.

While not within the county borders, famous Gloucester chef Tom Kerridge’s pub, The Hand and Flowers in Marlow, maintained its impressive two Michelin Star rating in 2022.

For Gloucestershire locals happy to drive to destination restaurants, the nearest restaurants with Two Michelin Stars include The Dining Room in Malmesbury and Raymond Blanc’s legendary Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons in Oxfordshire.
The nearest to Gloucestershire with one Michelin Star, include The Whitebrook in the Wye Valley restaurants, near Monmouth; Bybrook in Castle Combe; The Royal Oak at Whatcote near Shipston-on-Stour; with Bulrush, Paco Tapas and Casamia in Bristol; and Adam’s, Opheem, Simpsons and Carters of Moseley in Birmingham.
Bib Gourmand restaurants near Gloucestershire in 2022
Although Gloucestershire was formerly home to numerous affordable Bib Gourmands restaurants, there are no longer any of these eateries within the county borders.
Some of the nearest Bib Gourmand restaurants for Gloucestershire foodies to visit, however, include The Inn at Welland in the nearby Malverns; Beckford Bottle Shop in Bath; with Root and Box-E in Bristol.
