The organic food products that will cost you the most – and least – compared to regular items

Shoppers looking to shop more ethically while keeping their food bill low have been advised on the organic grocery items with the smallest price increases.

Buying organic products always costs more than regular items, but now researchers at NetVoucherCodes.co.uk have revealed the products that typically have the highest and lowest price increases.

Organic vegetables, fruits, eggs, milk, and meat are products that are grown or grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.

It also means that organic livestock raised for meat, eggs and dairy must have access to the outdoors and receive organic feed.

As a result, organic foods often have more beneficial nutrients, and people with allergies to foods, chemicals, or preservatives often find their symptoms lessen or disappear when they eat only organic foods.

But this also means that organic produce is more expensive than conventionally grown food.

Buyers may think that all organic products come with a high enough price increase to prevent them from considering buying more ethically, but NetVouchersCodes research shows that this is not always the case.

The team analyzed the prices of 17 typical organic and non-organic foods in three large supermarkets to calculate the average cost and calculate the price increases.

This is what they found:

The smallest price increases when you buy organic.

Mushrooms – Surprisingly, a tub of organic white mushrooms is usually only 1% more expensive than a regular one.

Butter – If you buy a packet of organic salted butter, it will usually only cost about 30p more

Onions

Houmous

Milk

The most expensive foods to buy organic

Chicken – A whole chicken is the most expensive organic food to buy. Organic varieties cost a whopping £ 10.97 on average, compared to just £ 3.35 to buy normally.

Baked beans – Organic baked beans are typically 140% more expensive than regular cans

Peppers – Bell peppers come with a 97% price increase.

Carrots – An organic bag is approximately 83% more expensive than a normal bag.

A spokesperson for NetVoucherCodes.co.uk said: “Deciding whether to watch your wallet or shop ethically does not always have to be a major trade-off.”

“As our research shows, you can make better decisions about the foods you buy and eat without spending a fortune.

“If you trade in just three or four items for your organic alternatives at your grocery store each week, it could cost you as little as 93 pence more.”

Certain products are also going to cost much more to produce organically, and these prices are reflected on their price tag.

“Even an organic bag of carrots is about 83% more expensive than a normal bag. But for others, like mushrooms, milk and onions, the price difference is relatively small, although the quality and taste of the food they are probably much better. “
