This is why I don’t tell people I’m from New Jersey when I travel

A New Jersey woman, whose identity is not known to the public so far, was fined $ 800 for jumping off a tourist boat in Maine.

The incident occurred last July and allegedly occurred as the ship, The M / V Acadian, was about to dock. Apparently, he jumped on a $ 500 bet with his brother.

Apparently she was rescued from the water, whether she was in danger or not is unclear from the information we have. He could have been fined up to $ 25,000 for his antics, but the judge was pretty gentle on the woman and settled for an $ 800 fine.

Sometimes when you’re on vacation and maybe having cocktails on a tour boat, jumping in on a hot summer day seems like a cool thing to do.

I’ve been in New England the last two summers. Two years ago, I was on a ferry to a small island near Portland, Maine. Last summer we took the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard from Cape Cod. Massachusetts. It never occurred to us to jump off the ship while docking. I guess we are cautious that way.

We are also careful to tell people where we are from, because this is what the rest of the country thinks the people of New Jersey do. And yes, sometimes they do.

There are many examples of “a man from New Jersey …” who did something horrible or illegal on the Internet. The game is really about “a man from Florida …” But if you Google a man or woman from Jersey, you’ll see that we are catching up with Florida.

We still have a long way to go to Florida for the crazy headlines, but it’s a new year and we can dream.
