Valley Fest 2022: The lakeside festival near Bristol where you can eat food cooked by Michelin chefs

Valley Fest has announced the food line-up for this year’s family-friendly event overlooking Chew Valley Lake. Chef Josh Eggleton and his sister, Holly, have curated the festival’s food offering and secured some of the South West’s hottest culinary talent.

Feasts, demonstrations and sampling sessions are all part of the Valley Fest food programme, with added theater and cooking over fire. Many of the chefs appearing have restaurants in the prestigious Michelin guide.

The Friday night will see a five-course feast headed up by Rob Howell of Bristol’s Root restaurant. A Michelin Bib Gourmand-award winner, the Wapping Wharf restaurant specializes in plant-based small plates with meat on the side.

Saturday’s sessions will also have five courses headed up by Josh Eggleton, with guest chef Jude Kereama of Kota in Cornwall. The menu is yet to be revealed but it will feature seafood from the South West.

Sunday’s menu will be a three-course roast prepared by Eggleton with chefs Toby Gritten of the Pump House and Hannah Catley of Lockdown Loaves. The roast will champion the finest produce the South West has to offer.

The cooking over fire demonstrations will include Michelin-starred chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias of Bristol restaurant Casamia and Paco Tapas, as well as Decimo in London. He will be joining forces with George Livesey of Bristol’s Michelin-starred Bulrush, Elliot Lidstone of Box-E, BBQ champion, Simon Dyer, Bristol chef Henry Eldon and others for a three-day extravaganza for everybody who’s passionate about BBQ smoked food.

Away from food, Bristol performance art collective Arcadia will join forces with the festival team for a spectacular show and Faithless have been confirmed as headliners. Arcadia is known for its 50ft fire-spitting spider, which has been a Glastonbury highlight for many festivalgoers in recent years.

Now in its eighth year, Valley Fest is the number one regenerative organic, food and music festival in the UK. New for 2022 will be the Regenerative Farming Area, sponsored by Yeo Valley, featuring speakers talking about various food-related subjects including regenerative organic farming.

The family-friendly festival takes place alongside Chew Valley Lake, near Bristol, between August 4 – 7. Music headliners include Travis, Clean Bandit, Kosheen, Faithless (DJ set), Roni Size B2b Nia Archives feat Dynamite MC and The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club.

Farmer Luke Hasell set up the festival in 2014 in honor of his parents who both died within a short time of each other. Having farmed for generations, they cared enormously for the land and community surrounding it.

Their spirit and joie de vivre runs deeply through the festival. The neighboring Community Farm provides much of the fresh produce on site. And Luke’s beef can be bought at the festival – his cows graze in the fields everyone plays in.

This year, Valley Fest has joined forces with the world-famous performing arts collective, Arcadia. Known for their iconic 50ft fire-spitting spider, which has been a Glastonbury highlight for millions, they will bring their Afterburner stage.

During the day there will be a whole range of kids’ activities run by the Woodland Tribe, who will encourage kids to build their own playground. Festival tickets are £170 (plus booking fee) and can be bought in facilities to spread the payment here.
